If changed settings do not appear on your online store, check saving, the theme and template you are viewing, then your plan, in that order. If only the title or button labels from the shared app settings are missing, also check the block's individual settings.
Saving: Check whether an "Unsaved changes" bar appears at the top of "Customize the table of contents," and whether you also selected "Save" in the theme editor.
Theme: Check that the theme where you added the app block is the same theme you are viewing on the online store.
Plan: Custom Liquid, per-block title and button labels, and toggle buttons are applied on the Light Plan and higher.
Browser display: Check whether you reloaded the target page after saving.
Cause: Changing a setting in "Customize the table of contents" displays an "Unsaved changes" bar at the top of the screen. Changes do not appear on the online store until you select "Save." Selecting "Discard" cancels them. Changes to an app block or app embed in the theme editor also need to be saved.
What to do: Select "Save" on the screen where you made changes.
Open "Customize the table of contents" by selecting "Settings" from the app menu. The preview on the right lets you check the appearance before saving.
In Shopify admin, go to Apps and open "RuffRuff Table of Contents." Check that you selected "Save" on the app's settings page and "Save" at the top right of the theme editor. Reload the target published page after saving. You are done when the changes appear.
Cause: App blocks and app embeds are added only to the selected theme. If you open a different theme on the online store, the changes do not appear.
What to do: Check that the theme chosen in "Select a theme" on the home screen is the same theme you are viewing on the online store.
Cause: Displaying a table of contents on products, pages, and collections requires the Regular Plan. Saving the settings does not display a table of contents unless the target template has an app block or app embed.
What to do: Check that you are on the Regular Plan and that the target template has the "Table of Contents" app block, or an app embed on a vintage theme. If no table of contents appears, see Table of Contents Not Displaying.
Cause: On the Light Plan and higher, enabling "Override the app settings for this block" displays the block's individual text. A blank title hides the title. Blank button labels use the shared app settings instead.
What to do: To use the shared text, turn off the override in the target block and save. To keep individual text, change the text in that block and save. After saving, check the title and button labels on the target page.
Cause: Heading hover styles, toggle buttons, and "Initial Display Lines" are applied on the Light Plan and higher. These settings are disabled on the Free Plan.
What to do: To use toggle buttons or "Initial Display Lines," switch to the Light Plan or higher. See Plan Differences for plan details.
Cause: The "Table of Contents" block in the theme editor includes a notice that these settings are available on the Light Plan and higher and are not applied on the Free Plan. Custom Liquid and per-block title and button label fields are visible on the Free Plan, but their values are not applied. The override is applied only on a paid plan.
What to do: To use Custom Liquid or per-block text, switch to the Light Plan or higher. See Add Custom Liquid Above or Below the Table of Contents and Set Title and Button Text per Block for setup steps.
Cause: The browser may still show the previous version after you save settings.
What to do: Reload the target page. If the previous version remains, try the following.
(1) Hard-reload
Reload with Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows, or Command + Shift + R on Mac.
(2) Check in a private window
Open the target page in the browser's incognito or private mode.
You are done when the saved settings appear on the target published page.
