Cannot Access a Template

What to do when a template cannot be opened in the theme editor

If you see a "Cannot access" error when trying to view a template in the theme editor, it means no published content of that type currently exists in your store.

Where to create it

Blog post

At least 1 published blog post

Online Store → Blog posts

Product

At least 1 published product

Products → All products

Page

At least 1 published page

Online Store → Pages

Collection

At least 1 published collection

Products → Collections

  1. Using the table above, create and publish at least one piece of content of the relevant type in your Shopify admin

  2. Return to the theme editor and select the template again

Once published content exists, the template will become accessible.
